The tower is round, capped by an octagonal lantern house, an iron walkway with railing surround the lantern house. There are two windows and a workroom to the south connects it to the keeper's house, a small, three-bay, single-story, wood-frame clapboarded structure. A small brick oil house stands a short way off, and there is a wood-frame boathouse.

Brief History
•  In December 1854 the Pumpkin Island Light was first lit.
•  In 1885 a boathouse was built and four years later the tower was raised 3 feet by the installation of a new lantern.
•  An oil house was added in 1904 and the boathouse was enlarged in 1906.
•  The original lens was replaced by another fifth order lens in 1909. In 1930 the light was automated.
•  The station was sold at an auction in 1934. It remains in private ownership. It is not an active aid to navigation.
