Description
In 1922 the tower was moved inland and in 1954 out buildings, including the keeper’s house, were torn down.
Brief History
• 1825, Stephen Pleasonton approved buying 4 more acres and moving the keeper’s house back from the shore.
• 1834, The schooner Hudson grounded at Cape Poge and all passengers and crew were lost.
• 1898, Characteristic changed from fixed white to flashing red and white.
• 1954, Out buildings, including the keeper’s house, were torn down.
• In 1997 The lantern was removed from the tower, sandblasted, repainted, glass repaired and placed back on the tower.
