This beacon was set in the steeple of the First Baptist Church.

Brief History
•  The light, seen through a window in the steeple, is 127 feet above mean high water.
•  The station was first established in 1872. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1927.
•  The keeper's dwelling was altered in 1941 to provide barracks for 20 men.
•  Admiral William B. Ellis and his wife Dorcas lived at the lighthouse for a time in the 1960s.
•  The church was destroyed in a fire in 1975, but the steeple survived; it was incorporated into the rebuilt church.
