Description
That small steel tower is present in the harbor today, close to the original spot of "Bug Light."
Brief History
• 1869,The slight damage done by storm of 8th September has been repaired.
• The first keeper, Nathaniel Hooper, served until 1871.
• In 1891, a new, wider gallery was built around the dwelling. At the same time new outer stairs were added.
• Gershom Freeman became keeper in 1895. A housekeeper, a Mrs. Tenney, moved into the lighthouse, and her young son, Francis.
• In June of 1929, during maintenance which included removing exterior paint with a blow torch, the light caught fire and could not be saved.
