Brief History
• The 32 cantilevered granite steps are embedded in the wall without the use of mortar.
• In 1856, the tower at Ned’s Point received a fifth-order Fresnel lens.
• In 1888 a wood framed keeper’s house was built on the original foundation as the stone dwelling that was originally built.
• The light was deactivated in 1952. The land was sold to the town of Mattapoisett which developed it into a park.
• In 1993, the local Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla adopted Ned’s Point Lighthouse and renovated the tower in 1995 – 1996.
