Description
The tower with separate new ranch house that replaced the old keepers house was destroyed.
Brief History
• The lighthouse was built on land rented for five shillings a year from John and Hannah Thomas.
• Under the act of August 7, 1789, the United States accepted cession of the lighthouse by Massachusetts on June 10, 1790.
• In 1842 the Gurnet lighthouses were rebuilt and the new structures, while still of wood, each had a distinctive design.
• In 1925, Frank Allen Davis transferred from Tarpaulin Cove with his wife Olive and their three children.
• In 1999, a lease on Plymouth Lighthouse was granted to Project Bug Light, which had been caring for Duxbury Pier Lighthouse since 1983.
