The lighthouse is not open to the public.
Brief History
• Both the North and South Side Lighthouses were exhibited for the first time on September 1, 1903.
• November 12, 1904, a fog siren powered by compressed air produced by twin thirteen-horsepower engines was in readiness.
• A radiobeacon, established adjacent to the South Side Light on April 4, 1939.
• In July 2008, the Buffalo Harbor South Entrance Lighthouse was offered to qualified groups through the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act, passed in 2000.
• In 2011, the deed to the lighthouse was transferred to the Buffalo Lighthouse Association, who estimated $850,000 was needed to restore the lighthouse.
