The lighthouse is not open to the public.
Brief History
• In 1855, the original lamp was replaced with a sixth order Fresnel lens.
• In 1938 Cedar Island became Cedar Point when a hurricane created a sandbar that connected the island to the mainland.
• It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
• The oil house, built in 1902, was restored in 2004.
• On October 31, 2013, the four-and-a-half-ton lantern room was hoisted off the lighthouse and barged to Sag Harbor Yacht Yard, where it will be restored.
